Indigenous Catholics at WIPCE:

Last year at WIPCE in Hawaii it was wonderful to be able to present with colleagues from different dioceses across New South Wales. During the conference we were able to socialise together and create meaningful networks and connections - sharing experiences and resources. Leaving the conference I thought wouldn't it be great if we could arrange to have some Catholic specific events at the next conference in Toronto.

To kick start this, I've created a closed Facebook group that people who are hoping to attend WIPCE in 2017 can join.

I've been thinking about some of the topics I'd like to explore:

  • Fostering and supporting strong cultural identities in our students
  • Improving educational outcomes within the Catholic education system
  • Educating staff about Indigenous issues.
What topics would you like to explore?

If you would like to contact me please connect with me on Facebook and join our Facebook group.

Yours in Unity

First day of Advent

While our Australian shopping habits have us convinced that the first day of advent is on the 1st of December strictly speaking the first day of Advent is today.

In addition to being the first day of advent, we move into a new liturgical year.

Blessings to everyone.

My journey

Image of Mary Mac on the steps of St Mary's Cathedral, Sydney.

As a Koori teacher who has worked within Catholic education for the last 17 years, I'm excited and a little nervous to be finally embarking on a further academic journey at Notre Dame.

I have enrolled in a Masters of Philosophy in Education. I'm not 100% certain of my research question yet as I'm still grappling with the course units about research methodologies and heaven forbid - quantitative research. However, I'm fairly certain that my area of study will see me delve further into spirituality. I think I may explore the way that teachers have engaged with Aboriginal Spirituality in their teaching of the Board of Studies' Studies of Religion.

An exciting adventure? Yes
A scary one? Definitely.
